Is a Dating Ad Platform really important for campaigns?

I’ve been wondering about something lately. When people talk about running ads for dating sites, they always mention choosing the right platform. But does a Dating Ad Platform really make that big of a difference, or is it just another marketing buzzword?
A while ago, I started experimenting with ads for a small dating project a friend and I were working on. At first, we thought ads were ads. We assumed if the creative looked good and the targeting was okay, things would work out. But honestly, the results were pretty random. Some days we’d get clicks, other days almost nothing. It felt like we were guessing more than actually running a campaign.
The bigger issue was that many general ad networks didn’t seem very comfortable with dating content. Either the ads got rejected or the targeting options were too limited. That’s when I started looking around forums and discussions where people suggested trying a platform that specifically understands dating traffic.
Out of curiosity, I checked a few options and came across a dedicated Dating Ad Platform that focuses on campaigns like this. What stood out to me was that the ad formats and targeting options actually made sense for dating offers. Instead of fighting the system, the ads felt like they belonged there.
From my small tests, I noticed something interesting. The traffic quality felt more relevant. It wasn’t perfect, and there’s always some trial and error with creatives and targeting, but the campaigns started to feel more stable compared to running them on random networks.
So if someone asked me now whether the platform matters, I’d probably say yes, at least a little more than I originally thought. It doesn’t magically fix a bad campaign, but using a platform that already understands dating audiences can make the whole process less frustrating.
That’s just my experience though. I’m curious if others here noticed the same thing or if you found success with more general ad networks.
