Does retargeting really help with Singles ads?

So, I've been running a few Singles ads lately, and one thing I kept hearing from others in the space is how “retargeting changes everything.” Honestly, I was skeptical at first. I thought it was just another marketing buzzword that agencies throw around to sound smart. But after testing it myself, I kind of get why people swear by it.

When I first started promoting Singles ads, I focused on getting as many clicks as possible. I figured if the traffic was good, conversions would follow. But that's not what happened. I was getting plenty of clicks, sure, but most of those visitors bounced after the first look. No sign-ups, no engagement. Just a bunch of window shoppers. It felt like I was paying for attention that didn't last longer than three seconds.

That's when I started wondering if maybe the problem wasn't the ad itself, but how I was following up with the audience. I mean, think about it — not everyone is ready to join a dating site or app the first time they see an ad. Maybe they're curious, maybe they're scrolling at work, or maybe they're just not in the mood right then. But if you can reach them again later, when they're more relaxed or thinking about dating, your chances go up.

I came across a post that broke down how Retargeting for Singles ad Campaigns actually works in plain terms. It basically lets you re-engage people who already showed some interest — like they visited your site or clicked an ad but didn't sign up. You show them another ad a few days later, maybe something a little more specific or inviting, and it reminds them why they clicked in the first place.

So I gave it a shot. I set up a small retargeting campaign just to test it out. I used the same creative at first — a simple image and short copy — but aimed it only at people who had already visited my landing page. Within a week, I noticed the numbers started to shift. My CTR didn't jump dramatically, but my conversions did. The people who saw my retargeted ads were more likely to actually sign up. It wasn't magic, but it felt like I was finally getting through to the same folks who had slipped away earlier.

After that, I started experimenting with slight variations — changing the message tone, adding a little more context like “Still looking to meet someone nearby?” or “Your perfect match might be waiting.” It makes the ads feel more like a friendly nudge instead of a sales pitch. That's the thing I learned about retargeting: it's not about pestering users until they give in. It's about reminding them at the right time with the right vibe.

One mistake I made early on was being too repetitive. I showed the same ad too often, and I could tell it started to annoy people. Frequency matters. Once I adjusted how often my retargeted ads appeared, the engagement felt more natural. The goal, at least in my experience, is to stay on their radar without becoming that annoying background noise they tune out.

What surprised me most was how retargeting worked even with small budgets. I didn't need a massive campaign to see results. Just a few bucks a day aimed at a warm audience did more for conversions than all the cold traffic I'd been paying for before. It's like the difference between introducing yourself to a stranger versus following up with someone who already knows your name.

If you're running Singles ads and not using retargeting, you're probably leaving easy conversions on the table. It's not a flashy strategy, but it's practical. You're working with people who've already shown interest — that's half the battle in dating ads.

For anyone curious or just starting out, I'd say test it out for a couple of weeks. You don't have to go all-in right away. Keep your audience small, your budget light, and just watch how it performs. You'll probably start noticing patterns — certain times of day when retargeted users convert better, or certain messages that click more.

At the end of the day, retargeting just makes sense for Singles ads because dating decisions aren't instant. People take time. They think, hesitate, come back, and then decide. Retargeting gives them that second (or third) chance to do it.

So yeah, I've officially joined the “retargeting works” club. Not because someone sold me on it, but because I saw the difference myself. And if you've been struggling with ads that get clicks but not results, it's definitely worth trying.
