Anyone had luck growing matchmaking ads for dating subs?

I have been thinking about this a lot lately because subscription dating sounds great on paper, but running ads for it is not always smooth. Free signups are easy to come by, but once you ask people to pay every month, things change fast. I kept wondering if others had figured out how to scale matchmaking ads without wasting budget or pulling in users who never convert.
The first real issue I hit was that most traffic did not understand the value right away. People would click, create an account, and then bounce as soon as they saw a subscription option. It felt like I was paying for window shoppers. Talking to others in similar forums, I realized this was pretty common. Subscription dating needs trust, and ads do not naturally build that.
Another challenge was messaging. My early ads were vague and safe. They talked about meeting people or finding connections, which honestly sounds like every dating ad out there. Nothing about it explained why someone should stick around or pay. Looking back, I think I was afraid of scaring people off by mentioning subscriptions too clearly.
Instead of scrapping everything, I decided to slow down and test small changes. I started adjusting copy to focus more on what the platform actually offered. Better matches, less spam, more serious users. The volume dropped a bit, but the people who did sign up stayed longer. That was the first sign I was heading in the right direction.
Traffic source also mattered more than I expected. Some platforms gave me tons of clicks but almost no paying users. Others sent fewer people, but they seemed more prepared to subscribe. I stopped judging campaigns by clicks alone and started looking at what users did after joining. Once I did that, the picture became much clearer.
During this phase, I spent time reading other people’s experiences and resources around matchmaking ads. What stood out was how often intent came up. Ads that clearly set expectations seemed to perform better over time. No hype, no overpromising, just being upfront about the experience.
I applied that thinking to my own campaigns. I made subscriptions visible early and focused on quality over scale. At first, it felt risky because costs went up. But complaints dropped, and retention improved. The users who joined were more serious, and that made scaling feel more sustainable.
Not everything worked. Some creatives failed completely. A few targeting tweaks killed performance overnight. There were moments where I questioned if paid dating subscriptions were even worth advertising. But after enough testing, patterns started to show. Clear messaging beat clever tricks. Steady growth beat sudden spikes.
If you are trying to grow matchmaking ads for subscription dating, my advice is to be patient and honest. Treat users like people, not numbers. Watch what happens after signup, not just before it. Scaling is possible, but only when the basics are done right. I am still learning, but it finally feels like real progress instead of trial and error.
